My Family

We have been making family trees. This includes most people in our family. We had to introduce our family in Te Reo. I think I was the one that did really well. Especially with Brenda because when I did it by myself my computer was really mean! It took FOREVER to save!

My Maths Learning

We are learning to use repeated addition to solve multiplication problems. Using the animal strips makes it easier to skip count using the number line.

My Reflection:I think we very very well. And it was SO fun!

Music

In music with Jenny we are learning to play in a band. We are all learning different instruments and we are working on our rhythm. Check out our videos:

My Reflection:I Think we did very good, but we still think we need a little more practise!

Active Listening

We are learning about different types of listening. There are 3 main types of listening that we learnt about. Busy Listening - When the person listening is busy doing something. They are too busy to concentrate on what is being said. Me Too Listening - When the person listening has a story that they feel is more important than the person talking so they interrupt and share their story instead of listening. Active Listening - When the person listening looks at the person talking, concentrates, gives non-verbal feedback (e.g. nodding) and asks questions about the story. To learn about the different types of listening, we watched this video:

As a class we created our own video to help us understand the different types.
After practising each type of listening, we realised…

  • Busy listening makes us feel like you’re not listening to us. We found it really hard to keep talking.
  • Me too listening makes us feel frustrated and sad that you think your story is more important.
  • Active listening makes us feel valued. We know you are listening because you are looking, nodding, asking questions.

As a class we are all trying to get better at being active listeners.

My Learning Goals

Description:
Today we looked through our reports from last year. We identified a next step (goal) for reading, writing and maths. Here are my goals:

Maths:taking risks in my learning and having a go when I am unsure.
To achieve this goal I will: I will just give it a try!

Reading:my next step expand my vocabulary by tuning into interesting words.
To achieve this goal I will: Write down new words I learn so I can use them in my writing.

Writing:My next goal is to use my writing plan to help structure my writing and group ideas in order.
To achieve this goal I will: Make a plan & check it as I write. I can make a movie in my head to check that I have recorded my ideas in order.

We also looked at our STAR results.
  • Word recognition I got 10 out of 10.
  • Sentence comprehension I got 10 out of 10.
  • Paragraph comprehension I got 15 out of 15.
  • Vocabulary I got 8 out of 10.

I then got re-tested on a Year 5 & 6 STAR test! I thought it was really easy.
Here are my results:
  • Word recognition I got 7 out of 10.
  • Sentence comprehension I got 3 out of 10.
  • Paragraph comprehension I got 16 out of 20.
  • Vocabulary I got 6 out of 10.

I am going to focus on: Sentence comprehension

To improve in this area I will: Use the links on our class blog.
